Artificial intelligence has now developed to a point where it has added more improvements to photography. Artificial intelligence infused photography tools can be seen in mobile devices today. Developers are no longer concentrating on increasing megapixels but are instead coming up with new and exciting ideas to improve smartphone photography. With machine learning adapting to algorithms, photos and selfies now look even better.
Recently, Google was able to demonstrate how an AI inspired photo editing program was able to professionally edit photographs.
Here are some ways AI has been applied to photography.
Portrait mode
A very good example of AI photography is seen in portrait mode photographs on smartphones. In just a few years, smartphones are now able to detect depth using dual rear cameras. The machine learning then automatically blurs the background to highlight the main subject.
The resulting image is always very good even if the photographer isn’t good. Experts say that this portrait mode feature will gradually be developed using one camera because the machine learning algorithms will soon learn how to select the subject out of an image without the need to use depth information received from the second camera.
Zoom and enhance
If you watch scripted police programs on CSI, you will notice that you are able to identify suspects on grainy videos. This is usually done through the zoom and enhance features. A person can easily zoom out a person in the video for their face to be seen clearly.
In the past, this function was not available because the computer was unable to provide more information on the original source material. Google has now developed an artificial intelligence system that helps to recreate a facial image using high pixel materials. There is a neural network that is able to map out the source image to a low-resolution quality image of a high-resolution image. It also has another neural network that is able to add more information to the source image by processing a large amount of other similar.
Photo editing
Have you tried removing a tattoo on a photo or moving a person using Photoshop? Then you know how hard it can be. However, Adobe has recently announced that it is currently working on adding an AI version of Photoshop that will make it much easier for people to select objects out of an image using the regular click and drag process.
They have also mentioned that they plan on using AI to improve the quality of pictures captured using smartphone devices. Adobe explains that AI will be able to edit images to make it look like it was taken from a real camera lens.
Fake Photos
People have always used fake photos for a long time but with AI, these photos will be able to look very real and convincing.
With the new neural network called Generative adversarial network, these fake images can be generated.
